LA tops the list of the most Energy Star certified buildings

March 18, 2011

Green Gas StationThere are many green certifications, and lots of ways to rate a building’s “green-ness”, but when it comes to Energy Star certified buildings, according to the EPA, our great city has topped that list for three years running!  Los Angeles has 510 Energy Star rated buildings- a pretty decent lead over Washington D.C. in second place with only 301.

California has traditionally been a green bellwether, so it’s no surprise that San Francisco, Sacramento, and San Diego also made the top 25, but for me, the really great news is that even in the current economic doldrums, developers and builders are recognizing the inherent value of “going green”.  According to the EPA article,  in 2010 more than 6,200 commercial buildings earned the Energy Star rating.  That’s an increase of nearly 60 percent compared to 2009 (!)

Energy use in commercial buildings accounts for nearly 20 percent of U.S. greenhouse gas emissions at a cost of more than $100 billion per year. … Energy Star certified buildings use 35 percent less energy and emit 35 percent less carbon dioxide than average buildings.

So yay LA!  Less money spent on energy means more money for everything else.  And less carbon dioxide being emitted in our cities means less smog, fewer cases of asthma, and  healthier lives for all of us.

Congratulations to my Favorite Stager!

Annie Pinsker-Brown, owner of Stage to Sell has won the Real Estate Staging Association’s Professional Stager of the the Year award.  Annie is not only a tremendously talented staging artist, transforming the most dismal of rooms into warm happy places all over the city,  she’s also a working mom and a really nice lady.  Congratulations Annie! What you do has helped my clients get their homes sold quick, and attain higher prices than the unfurnished homes around them.  No stager deserves it more than you.  Read the whole article & learn more about Annie here.

Charming Duplex 3 blks to the beach in S.M. $1.495

216 Bicknell
I love to talk about my own listings, but there are a lot of amazing properties out there that other agents have listed too!
That’s what the “Have you seen this!?” category is all about.
Houses that are really great. Houses that I just can’t help but talk about. Houses you should know about.

This one is particularly nice for 2 friends who are looking to share a duplex, or for extended family, or just to live in one and rent the other. Both units are beautiful with clean lines, lots of light, and huge bathtubs. Just a couple blocks from the beach, and there’s even a courtyard between the homes.

The address is 216 Bicknell and you can get some info here on Zillow. Call me if you’d like to make an appointment to see the property.
